Title:Differential equations and combinatorics

Abstract

In combinatorics, the usual approach of computing the generating functions of enumerative sequences is by solving the associated differential equations, ordinary or partial, that encode the recurrence relations. In the past few decades, there is accumulated a wealth of differential equations solved by combinatorialists. We give an exposition of differential equations and their methods of solutions that occur in combinatorics. Interplays between differential equations and combinatorics occur when generating functions satisfy another differential equation, thus leading to a recurrence from another combinatorial point of view.
