Abstract

Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate (Anti-NMDA) receptor encephalitis is an acute autoimmune neurological disorder. The cause of this disease is often unknown. Previous studies revealed that it might be caused by a virus, vaccine, or tumor. Several cases were reported to be related to vaccination such as the H1N1 vaccine and Japanese encephalitis vaccine. In addition, several case reports have revealed that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) or COVID-19 vaccination may induce anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis. microRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that play important roles in cell differentiation, development, cell-cycle regulation, and apoptosis. miRNAs have been used as biological biomarkers for many diseases. In this talk, the miRNA biomarkers of COVID-19, anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, and other related diseases are discussed and these biomarkers are used to explore the association between anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, vaccination, or COVID-19.
